“Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands” Deuteronomy 8:2 NIV

The night before I came across this verse, I had been reading Deuteronomy 5-6, and I was wondering, “Why did God make the Israelites wander through the desert for 40 years? Isn’t that a bit tough? I thought he was loving!”

Now, I know why.

I prayed to God and asked for an answer, a reply to my question. That same night, I continued reading, and I learned about how truly wonderful he is, and how he saved the Israelites from so much. That satisfied me at that time, and I went to bed.

The next night, I continued doing my devotions. (I’m hoping to finish the whole bible by the end of 2014.) Finally, I came across this verse. It answered my question clear as day, and I was amazed at how God answered my question. The verse said that he wanted to test the Israelites and see if where their hearts lay, and if they would keep his commands.

Wow. This relates to me, in the 21st century because it tells me to keep moving forward. Even though I may feel lost and stuck in my problems, God is there and he wants me to get through it. To conquer my fears, and get past my problems.

I feel stronger already.

In 2 Corinthians 12:1-3, Paul talked about knowing someone who was brought up to the third heaven. That man was in paradise.

Now, what is the third heaven? There are three layers above people and under people. There’s God, Angels, the devil, People, Animals, Plants, and Mines/rocks. These levels are stacked upon each other, with God at the top.

What this means, is that to get to God, we need to pass through and defeat the devil. This doesn’t, however, mean that you have to meet the devil at any point in your life, but it means that you have to go through hardships to get to God.

If you feel conflicted and confused from reading all this, ask God, and he’ll answer you, or leave a comment, and I’ll do my best to help :)
